Aaron Lennon

We are being heavily linked with both Birmingham City’s Mathew Upson and West Brom’s Curtis Davies for the upcoming transfer window.

Now although I think we are fine in that area (Centre half), if we to make a move who would you prefer?

I know Davies is a very talented young lad and has already skippered the Baggies and he is only 21 but I think Upson is more established in the Premiership (Plus nine caps for England) and besides the MAJOR FACT THAT HE USED TO PLAY FOR THE GOONER SCUM should be a good acquisition.

Both seem to have potential to improve our squad but I want to know why we are searching for centre half. Marty says so it will allow him to play Ledley in more advanced role but I think (and I know everyone will agree) that Tommy Huddlestone is doing an amazing job in the heart of the midfield. The kid has something special. I know I might be jumping the gun but I honestly believe he is in a similar mould to the Gerrard’s and the Lampard’s of this world.

Anyway lets see what Marty does, I won’t doubt him. Keep up the good work…

But……………… please sign another flanker and never drop Huddlestone. ;)

Aaron Lennon has officially been ruled out of England’s friendly with Holland due to injury.

Lennon will join fellow Spurs Ledley King and Jermaine Jenas on the treatment table while Paul Robinson, Michael Dawson and Jermaine Defoe are all fit to take their place in the squad.

England squad:

Goalkeepers: Paul Robinson (Tottenham), Ben Foster (Man Utd)

Defenders: Phil Neville (Everton), Micah Richards (Man City), Rio Ferdinand (Man Utd), John Terry (Chelsea), Jamie Carragher (Liverpool), Wes Brown (Man Utd), Michael Dawson (Tottenham), Ashley Cole (Chelsea), Wayne Bridge (Chelsea).

Midfield: Shaun Wright-Phillips (Chelsea), Steven Gerrard (Liverpool), Frank Lampard (Chelsea), Michael Carrick (Man Utd), Joe Cole (Chelsea), Kieran Richardson (Man Utd).

Forwards: Wayne Rooney (Man Utd), Peter Crouch (Liverpool), Jermain Defoe (Tottenham), Andrew Johnson (Everton).

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho says he is not interested in signing Aaron Lennon.

Mourinho said: “No, completely not interested. The boy is good, but we have no interest in buying or changing anything.

“Our interest is to keep Shaun Wright-Phillips - who was supposedly involved in any deal. No way. It’s not true.”

SWP is a great player but you can keep him. We need to hold on to our stars and land a left sided midfielder.

Jermaine Jenas has urged Aaron Lennon to reject any offers and stay on at White Hart Lane.

Jenas said: “The fans love him and we don’t want to lose him as a player.

“He was the best of the wingers on the pitch on Sunday and gave Chelsea all kinds of problems.

“We knew he would, especially as he had his new yellow boots on and we gave him plenty of stick before the game, but we didn’t say a word afterwards!”

On the goal by Lennon, which gave Spurs the victory over the champions, Jenas added: “He’s been threatening to score for a few games but he saved it for the biggest occasion.

“He did it by beating Ashley Cole and he’s the best left-back in the world. It was a great finish.

“Chelsea have been linked with Aaron but results like this prove he doesn’t have to go there to fulfil his ambitions and win things.”

Tottenham fans will be glad to hear that stars Aaron Lennon and Ledley King are both progressing well from their respective injuries.

Exciting flanker Lennon has returned to training and is well ahead of schedule following his injury earlier this season while England defender Ledley King should be fit to face Aston Villa this weekend.

Manager Martin Jol said: “He (Ledley King) had some fluid in his knee, they (England) decided to pull him out and I thank Steve McClaren for that because I felt if he had played we would have had a problem and everybody knows Ledley is important for us,”

“He can’t train today, but hopefully he’ll train tomorrow and travel with us.”

Aaron Lennon has insisted that he will be even stronger when he returns from injury in six weeks time.

Lennon, 19, said: “I tried to do a sharp turn and felt a pain in the side of my knee. I didn’t think much of it but the physio said to go and have a scan,” “The scan showed a little tear in the side of my cartilage. I am a fast healer so I shouldn’t be too long.

“It is horrible, there are big games coming up and there is also Europe. It is part of football and a learning experience. I’ll be strong and come back stronger - I’ll be alright.”

Tottenham have confirmed that England winger Aaron Lennon will have to have a knee operation after failing his latest fitness test.

Spurs manager Martin Jol confirmed:  “Aaron will have the operation on Saturday,” Jol said after the 1-0 victory in Prague.

“He has a minor tear in the cartilage and we had hoped for the best.

“But after training yesterday he said he couldn’t do everything he wanted to so we thought it best that he had the operation. He will be out for five or six weeks.”

Great News - All Spurs fans will be thrilled to hear that the injury to star winger Aaron Lennon is not as bad as first thought.

The elusive England international could make a shock return to the starting line up for Spurs UEFA Cup tie against Slavia Prague tomorrow after a scan revealed his knee injury was only minor.

Tottenham are hoping for good news regarding the injury to Aaron Lennon after he went down at training on Friday.

Spurs boss Martin Jol said: “Aaron was injured in training yesterday, so he could not be considered for today’s game,”

“There could be a problem with the cartilage in his knee.

“We will make an assessment on him tomorrow, when we will probably know the extent of the damage for sure.”

On the 1-0 loss to Manchester United, Jol added: “It’s a disappointment to lose three points. You know that Man Utd are playing well lately, so to lose 1-0 is probably okay.

“But I think we deserved to have something out of this game as we went to Old Trafford and had five or six possibilities.

“They had a free kick, probably from 35 yards, it was a terrific shot, but a stupid goal.

“We still concede stupid goals, I think about Everton, I think about Bolton Wanderers. They are all little things, minor mistakes.

“This is a new team. Ghaly was in the team for the first time and there was also Chimbonda.

“We have to sort ourselves out and we have to be a team. I think we can take a lot of positives out of the game.”

Middlesbrough want to sign Aaron Lennon.

Boro executive Keith Lamb said: “[Chairman] Steve Gibson and I are appalled at the way Tottenham conduct their business,”

“We are shocked and disappointed that they should talk publicly about their interest in one of our players.

“They have not made a £10 million offer for Stewart, and would be wasting their time if they did.

“In actual fact, they made a derisory offer.

“I won’t even be responding to the bid because they knew in advance that it would be unacceptable.

“We can only consider that it was a mischievous attempt to unsettle Stewart and cause a problem between the player and his hometown club.

“If that is the case, it won’t succeed, and we won’t be giving their offer even the courtesy of a rejection.

“We would be more interested in buying Aaron Lennon from Spurs than selling Stewart because we remain extremely ambitious to take this club forward.

“In fact, during the course of our talks with Spurs, we have already expressed our interest in signing Lennon.”
