Ahmed Hossam Mido

Well what can I say. Have been out of town for about six weeks and didn’t get a chance to put anything up, and to tell you the truth I really couldn’t get the motivation to do so.

It has been a pretty ordinary start to 2007, with our loss in the Carling Cup (Will not reference this match ever AGAIN) and our indifferent league form leaving us without a hope of surpassing last season’s heroics.

We have released/sold:

Calum Davenport to West Ham

Marton Fulop completed his expected move to Sunderland

Edgar ‘The Pit-bull’ Davids to Ajax – I loved Edgar. I reckon his fiery attitude and vast experience was a major catalyst to our success last season. Even though he didn’t play every match, his presence was a major boost for the youngster at our club.

We loaned out:

Reto Ziegler to Sampdoria – I want to see more of this lad. I think he has potential to succeed but Marty keeps loaning him out. Will hopefully get a decent run in the side to see what he has to offer.

Mark Yeates to Leicester City – signed a new deal with the club recently. Does show promise but with our first team attackers don’t think he will get much of a look in.

We bought:

Ricardo Rocha from Benfica – Seen this lad in the Champions League for Benfica and could be a great signing for us.

Ben Alnwick from Sunderland – Deal was completed as part of the Fulop move to Sunderland. Has played for the England under 21’s and has impressed on his first team outings for the Black Cats.

Adel Taarabt from Lens – Finally signed this lad (Even though it is on loan should be become permanent). Marty Jol had his eye on him for a while and he couldn’t wait to leave Lens. Has already impressed in the reserves.

Overall I thought we would sign another one or two players during the window but I’m glad we didn’t lose any major players like Mido. So I can’t really complain.

What I can complain about is terrible 11th place we hold on the Premiership table and cannot wait for the match at Everton next week.

We have Fulham away in the FA cup before that so lets hope the next time we see the lads at The Lane against Bolton, we are back in the top half of the Premiership and through to the next round of the Cup.

PS Sorry for the delay between posts this time. Will try and keep them coming. :)

Striker Mido is confident we are back to our their best after our slow domestic start to the season.

“Everyone was saying we got off to a bad start to the season but now we’re only three points away from being third, so we’re not far,” said Mido.

On the upcoming fixture against Newcastle, Mido said: “We did very well against Manchester City, we have to look at that and try to do the same against Newcastle,”

“They have a very good squad with some quality players, and when they play at home they are very strong.

“There’s a great atmosphere up there, so we know it will be a tough game but hopefully we can get a result like we did against City.”

Another solid win in Europe to put us into the next phase as group winners.

Must say our strike force is looking good, but I was a little suprised Martin didnt rest either Berbatov or Defoe once we were in control. Dimitar has been on fire and would have hated for him to get a silly injury towards the end (Touch wood, touch anything).

Mido made a welcome return to the bench but one wonders if he is 100% otherwise he could have got at least ten - twenty minutes.

Overall I’m a happy man. Two on the trot in the Premiership (including that sublime effort against Charlton) and now group winnners.

Let see who we draw in the next phase of the UEFA but for now bring on Man City. Let’s get the three points on our travels this weekend.

Egyptian striker Mido has been ruled out for at least two weeks as he continues his recovery from his groin injury.

Coach Jol said: “Mido has a little tear in his groin and that’s why he wasn’t fit for selection. He could be out for a couple of weeks.”

Technorati Profile

Martin Jol has quickly dismissed suggestions that his preferred strike partnership is Jermain Defoe and Dimitar Berbatov following their good link up in the 3-1 victory over Wigan on the weekend.

He said: “They did well but we don’t have a best partnership. We saw Robbie Keane against Leverkusen and Besiktas and against Chelsea in our best match of the season,”

On the performance against Wigan he added: “It’s always nice to have a win after a Thursday game - I thought we were terrific,”

Egyptian forward Mido is happy with the strength of our current squad.

He said: “The strikers are scoring again but the whole squad is doing well at the moment,”

“Not many teams have a squad like ours where so many players can come straight into the starting line-up and do a job.

“Against MK Dons, we had people like Reto Ziegler, Paul Stalteri and Anthony Gardner who came in and did really well and the manager knows he can call on all of us when needed and we will do a job for the team.”

Mido has slammed the ability of former Tottenham and Arsenal defender Sol Campbell in the lead up to the match against Portsmouth on Sunday.

Mido said: “I tried to score against Slavia Prague and I am very disappointed to miss such a good chance. But I have so much confidence in myself and I don’t have any doubts.

“I came back to Tottenham because I know I can score goals.

“Portsmouth have Sol Campbell at the back and he is the easiest defender I have ever played against.

“I’m not scared of him.”

Egyptian striker Mido has expressed his confidence that Spurs will get their act together and achieve another good placing in the Premiership this season.

He said:”A lot of teams who didn’t start strongly last season played very well and finished strongly in the end - like Blackburn for example. Others started well and faded,”

“We still have a lot of games and a lot of things to do to get results. We will get started very soon.”

Mido has revealed that he came close to joining Blackburn Rovers when Mark Hughes came in for him earlier in the summer.

He said: “Spurs wanted me and I wanted to come to Spurs, and even though I had offers from other English clubs, I never changed my mind,”

“I was close to joining Blackburn. I spoke to the manager and the chairman and I have a lot of respect for them but I always wanted to join Spurs.”
