Jermaine Jenas

Attacking midfield gem Jermaine Jenas is confident we can achieve our aim of finishing in the top six of the Premiership.

Speaking after the 1-0 win, Jenas said: “We are a stronger side, we have got over a blip and are moving forward now.

“It was end to end, Reading are a top side and come to attack you.

“Reading are brilliant on the counter-attack and we were cautious about that.”

Jermaine Jenas is confident we will bounce back from 3-1 loss away to Reading last weekend.

“It’s a strong league and anyone can beat anyone but for Spurs it is disappointing,” said Jenas.

“We’re looking to climb the table and have been on a good run of games, to go to Reading and lose was not something we expected.

“We’ve got the quality in the side, it’s not like we haven’t got the quality to do it.

“We’ve just got to buck up our ideas from the Reading game and go on that run. We beat Chelsea but lose against Reading so it doesn’t mean anything. So it was a bad one for us.

“You never go into games too confident, you pay respect to your opponents. But we were confident in our own ability and we can put it down to three sloppy goals we conceded.

“It’s up to us to bounce back in the next game and make sure we get a win and put all the wrongs right.”

Jermaine Jenas has backed team-mate Paul Robinson to silence his critics when England take on Holland this week.

Jenas said: “Robbo’s a professional.

“He’s a strong character and I’m sure he’s blocked it out. It was a freak incident which happens.

“He picked himself up immediately. Not from now or from last week, he was over it straightaway and back training hard like he usually does.”

Jermaine Jenas has urged Aaron Lennon to reject any offers and stay on at White Hart Lane.

Jenas said: “The fans love him and we don’t want to lose him as a player.

“He was the best of the wingers on the pitch on Sunday and gave Chelsea all kinds of problems.

“We knew he would, especially as he had his new yellow boots on and we gave him plenty of stick before the game, but we didn’t say a word afterwards!”

On the goal by Lennon, which gave Spurs the victory over the champions, Jenas added: “He’s been threatening to score for a few games but he saved it for the biggest occasion.

“He did it by beating Ashley Cole and he’s the best left-back in the world. It was a great finish.

“Chelsea have been linked with Aaron but results like this prove he doesn’t have to go there to fulfil his ambitions and win things.”

Spurs manager Martin Jol has expressed his satisfaction with the 1-0 victory his team achieved away at Slavia Prague in their opening fixture in the Uefa Cup.

Jol said: “It was the best result you could wish for, 1-0 away from home.

“It was a good goal - Jenas can do that, he can score goals and that is what you want in away games in Europe.

“To get a result is great.”

Jermaine Jenas has described the feeling of disappointment he and his team-mates felt when they missed out on a Champions League place last season while also expressing his optimism regarding the current campaign.

Jenas said: “We’ve got a great squad here and we have brought some top players in. With the UEFA Cup this season we are going to need everybody.

“For the players that were here and in that changing room after the West Ham game, it was not a nice feeling.

“The manager tried to pick us up and make us aware of what we had achieved throughout the season but, as players, it was hard to accept.”
